HAZMAT Specialist Course

Prerequisites:

Individuals attending this course are required to have attended a certified 40-hour HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECHNICIAN course. This course meets and exceeds the standards set by OSHA 1910.120 (q) (6) (iv), NFPA 472, & EPA requirements.

Objective:

Train the HAZARDOUS MATERIALS Technician to the SPECIALIST level, to respond to release or threat of a release in the capacity as a:

  • HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST
  • RAIL TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST
  • MEDICAL OPERATIONS SPECIALIST
  • DECONTAMINATION SPECIALIST
  • INCIDENT COMMAND SPECIALIST

Format:

Students will participate in interactive lectures and hands-on exercises involving:

  • BASIC CHEMISTRY of HAZARDOUS MATERIALS
  • RECOGNITION & IDENTIFICATION
  • PLACARDING & LABELING
  • AIR MONITORING EQUIPMENT
  • NON-BULK & BULK CONTAINERS
  • CHEMICAL PROTECTIVE CLOTHING
  • RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
  • DECONTAMINATION
  • CONTAINER REPAIR
  • SPILL CONTAINMENT
  • DIKING & DAMMING
  • CHLORINE KITS (A, B, C)
  • MOTOR CARRIERS
  • RAIL CARS
  • MEDICAL MONITORING
  • INCIDENT COMMAND
